Final-year Capstone Project (Irrigation Water Evaporation Mitigation)
The aim of the project was to design a mechanical solution to reduce the wind-induced shear stresses on the water surface of a dam. This is because a chemical solution has been developed that when covering the surface of a body of water can reduce the amount of water loss due to evaporation, but can be easily displaced by the wind. This project will be a success if there is a way for a mechanical solution to generate ideal conditions for the chemical solution to function properly.Â
Our Capstone project aimed to conceptually design a mechanical solution which fulfills the above criteria while being cost effective, low maintenance, easily assemble. Above are images of our prototype, CAD drawing, close-ups, wind speed data, estimated water savings graph and estimated additional cotton sales due to water savings.
